Where is Your head, where are Your feet?

The exhibition "Where is Your head, where are Your feet?" is a celebration of noisy dance music and rhythm, where nervousness alternates with grinding and pounding in the given beats per minute. The rave was initially an illegal event held in abandoned warehouses, basements, factories, or in the open air all night long - a sanctuary in which one could shake their rusty frame, surrendering to bodily trance. The artist employs sensory elements inherent to rave culture, along with a smirking self-irony, to craft a simulation portraying the self-organization of the charmingly absurd subculture. The secular temple atmosphere is retrieved, allowing oneself to engage in the ritual of movement.
Elīna Mekša is an artist based in Riga, who works interdisciplinary. She has a Masters degree in painting (Latvian Academy of Art). During her studies, she spent a year at the Ecole supérieure d`art & medias de Caen/Cherburg, Cannes, France. In her practice, she emphasizes the spatial perception, its representation and modular functions, often using sonar medium to illustrate its diverse aspects. Within the aesthetic framework of her image system, the artist examines the use and meanings of everyday attributes.
