Sensitive Place

Ieva Viese (LV)
02/10 - 31/10/2026

Sensitive Place is an exhibition about communication, memory, presence, and distance. It focuses on places where connections can be made, on thoughts, pecking, buzzing, and insects around points of connection.

How to use the telephone
In Day-Gnawer Pages, you can find numbers to call. You can also choose not to call. Sometimes the telephone rings by itself - then you can pick up the receiver.
The telephone directory also contains advertisements that helped cover the costs of publishing the book. They have wonderfully witty authors, and the advertisements can be called too.
Pick up the receiver, find a number, and try to connect. Or go to the small room and disconnect from communication, listening to sounds of nature, which, at times, sound remarkably similar to human attempts to establish a connection.
In the chairs arranged in Dialogue, you can settle into reading, conversation, thoughts about light, and everything else.

Ieva Viese is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice brings together spatial and sculptural objects, text, sound, and moving image. Her work often engages with embodiment, memory, communication, and understanding.

Part of the exhibition is an artist's book in the form of a telephone directory, Diengraužu lapas / Day-Gnawer Pages.
Its core team, alongside the artist, includes compiler Ainārs Kamoliņš and designer and layout artist Lidija Zaneripa. The book was also created with the participation of writer and translator Liene Rumpe and editor Marija Leskavniece.
