+/- Children
Mailo Štern, Laura Feldberga un Ilze Vēze-Balode
10/11-02/12/2022
Each of the artists in the exhibition represents a conditional stereotype of femininity or universal humanity, but each has a very personal story to tell about their relationship with their children, or lack thereof.
The objects in the exhibition are made as references to everyday situations and depict both the mundane and the emotional life of relationships with children, bringing to the surface what is usually hidden and not said out loud, kept silent for personal, often painful or unacceptable reasons. Visitors, especially the younger ones, have the opportunity to interact with the objects, arrange or mix the placement of them, simulating the order or disorder of the house. As well there are works designed for children to play with and add to them.
Mailo Stern (Laura Stern) is a performance artist and activist, graduated from the Latvian Performing Arts Centre (LPMC) Performance Art Course, currently studying at the LMA. He works with objects and installations, video works, and creates art that is also activism. He has participated in group exhibitions at PILOT gallery, Dubulti art station, and has also participated in the Riga performance festival Starptelpa.
Laura Feldberga is a graphic artist, who also works with installations, objects and performance art. She organises the performance festival Starptelpa, teaches performance art at the LMA and the Latvian Centre for Performance Art.
Ilze Vēze-Balode studies at the P. Stradiņš Medical College of the University of Latvia, works as a support person for children with functional disabilities. She is studying at the poetry department of the Literary Academy organised by the Latvian Writers' Union. Mother of three children.
