Palimpsest
Rute Marta Jansone
07/06-30/06/2023

In ancient culture, a palimpsest was a text written on a parchment-like material made of animal skin from which previously written text had been scraped or washed so that it could be used again. The term "palimpsest" originates from the fusion of the ancient Greek words meaning "again" and "to scrape," encapsulating the essence of its process and purpose.

Moreover, the human body, with its unique characteristics and contextual intricacies, contains not only the imprint of lived experiences but also a profound layer of connotations and symbols. By harnessing the serpentine capability to shed tumultuous layers and the acute sensitivity to discern textural imprints, the artist embarks on an exploration of the image, delving into its ontological and materially formal dimensions.

On 29/06/2023 there was a performance as a part of the exhibition done by the artist herself.

Rute Marta Jansone (1996) graduated from the Visual Communication Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts (2022) with a master's thesis "Zemdegas", which was also exhibited in the RIXC gallery (2023). She is currently continuing her education in doctoral studies. Within her artistic practice, she traverses the realm of archetypes, following the codes of different cultures, interrogating human contradictions, corporeal existence, and the expansive dimensions of the collective psyche. Additionally, she engages with the transformative medium - performance.
