From one to the other, the pathway leads.
Through cables, signals, convos, touches, hints.
Threads sewn by imagination for the life line’s perspective.
Visions of the future. Sure.
Click forward. Inevitable succession.
One link to another. One road to the other.
By patches, embankments, metal plates,
by the invisible-yet-evident
to cover the holes,
smooth out.
Concrete, asphalt, cobbles, pebbles, gravel,
shortcuts, hashtags, clickbait, likes and views;
maintained functions, tamed dysfunctions, clear endurance.
Clenching. Holding one to one’s word.
A link – it connects. With no affinity – yet.
The link, it functions.
But for whose sake? Aligned to – what?
Screwed, glued, fused, welded, stapled, mixed, linked, posted, tagged
the load of connection.
Grown into a bond the possibility of affection holds at a standstill.
Grown into a scar the patch turns rough.
Open cracks are the only perfect matches.
The longing to be open at odds with unwillingness to hurt.
A link – a connection that tethers.
A link – the freedom’s thread.
Elīna Salnāja graduated from the Audiovisual Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts in 2022, with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication. She has participated in several group exhibitions, most recently in August 2022 at the Dubulti Art Station, in the exhibition “Tagadismi”, part of a project by Thomas Hirschhorn. Since 2022, she has also been involved in organizing exhibitions at DOM gallery.
