The act of selection alone is enough to create an artistic process, even if it takes place dilly-dallying around a shopping centre. A visit to a store can be considered similar to a museum if the context or function of the objects on display is irrelevant to the viewer. Mass-produced goods in stores are usually perceived as anonymous objects whose main quality lies in their practical use. However, once these objects are selected and removed from their usual contexts of production and consumption, they assume a new role, allowing viewers to observe and appreciate their individuality and form.
Collected over the course of several months, these objects are transformed into a temporary and constantly changing installation in which a different combination of selected items is exhibited each day. Among them are fluffy Easter chicks, fly swatters, sewing needles, colorful keychains, Hawaiian flower beads, garden butterfly decorations, fishing lures, smiley-face stickers, birthday candles, brightly colored cable ties, charm chains, spinning arrows, glow sticks, pink fluff, bubble wrap, hot glue sticks, sand molds, flamingo cocktail sticks, palm cocktail sticks, paper confetti, egg-dye tablets, a metal star, a butterfly net, a metal scrubber, egg cups, measuring tapes, whistles, pliers, artificial flowers, a plastic bag with a smiley face, a zebra-patterned comb, fuzzy craft wires, pinwheels, paper napkins, pool noodles, a smiley-face maze, party curtains, cacti, and more.
Everita Vītola (2001) is a young artist working across various media, including installation, 3D art, and painting. In her practice, she ironizes everyday desires and patterns of social behavior through the use of exaggerated clichés and symbols.
She is currently studying in the Department of Environmental Art at the Art Academy of Latvia and is a graduate of Janis Rozentāls Art High School. Participated in the group exhibition “Virzienmaiņas” at the Riga Contemporary Art Space (2025), “Simbioze 2.0” at RAA (2025), “BakterijaTakeover” at Kefirsstudio (2024), as well as in other projects and exhibitions.
